How to Setup a Raspberry Pi with Kodi

If you weren't lucky enough to grab a Raspberry Pi kit that came with the New Out of the Box Software, or "NOOBS" pre-installed, you'll probably want to start by getting NOOBS onto your SD card:

More about compatible SD cards HERE, and a list of cards HERE.

Steps:

  1. You will need a micro SD card that is at least 8GB, and for best results, it should be speed Class 10.
  2. SD Formater Utility
  3. It's also a good idea to first format your SD card.  To do this, grab the free SD card formatting tool from the SD Card Association Here
  4. Download the "NOOBS" zip file from the Raspberry Pi website .
    Select Download ZIP
  5. Unzip the NOOBS zip file and copy the files onto the SD card.  Note that if NOOBS unzips into a single folder, you'll want to copy everything inside that single folder, and paste that to the SD card (instead of just copying the one folder over to the SD).
  6. You're now ready to put the SD card into the Pi and plug in the power.
  7. Once the Pi has booted, you should see the available operating system choices, similar to the below:
    NOOBS Operating System selection
  8. Choose an OS, and restart the Pi.  Note that while you can install Kodi on many of these choices, for beginners we recommend choosing OpenElec, or OSMC, both of which come with Kodi pre-installed.
  9. You're now ready to start filling your new Raspberry Pi Kodi box with all kinds of your favourite content.  Check back here soon for a few of our recommendations...
